For many Fauquier County families, summer means more than just a break from school. It’s a season filled with discovery, friendship, and adventure. Behind many of those memorable experiences is Fauquier County Parks & Recreation, an organization that has long served as a cornerstone of community life. Through its commitment to providing accessible recreational opportunities and youth programs, the department continues to create spaces where children can grow, families can connect, and lasting memories can be made. We spoke with Cara Cassell, Programming, Marketing & Communications Superintendent for the County Department of Parks and Recreation, and learned a great deal about their wonderful programs.
Cara tells us that Fauquier County Parks & Recreation has been serving the community for decades by providing parks, programs, events, and recreational opportunities that enhance quality of life for residents of all ages. Their summer camps were developed to provide children with safe, enriching, and affordable experiences during the summer months while supporting working families throughout the community.
"Today, the camps continue to evolve based on community needs, offering opportunities for children to learn, explore, create, stay active, and build lasting friendships," she explains.
Fauquier County Parks & Recreation offers a variety of summer camp experiences designed to meet the needs and interests of local families.

Camps serve hundreds of children each summer. Cara tells us, "Many of our camp counselors and swim instructors began their careers with Parks & Recreation as teenagers and return year after year. Campers participate in everything from science experiments and nature exploration to art projects and community adventures."
Fauquier County's newest camp location at Cedar Lee Middle School expanded access to families in the southern part of the county.
Parks & Recreation also manages parks, trails, special events, archery programs, swim lessons, fitness classes, and much more throughout the year.
