What is the story behind your business? How did you get started?
The Bristow Moms and Kids Club, or BMAK, has been part of the local community for almost 20 years. It began with a small group of moms who wanted to build connections, find support, and give their children regular opportunities to meet and play. BMAK officially incorporated in Virginia in 2007 and gained 501(c)(7) nonprofit status the same year. The heart of the club has stayed the same since the beginning. Moms come together to get to know one another, support each other through challenging seasons, and build friendships that often last for years.Although the club began in Bristow, it now includes families from Gainesville, Haymarket, Vint Hill, Nokesville, Linton Hall, Manassas, Manassas Park, Catharpin, Warrenton, and nearby areas.
What does your business offer its customers?
We’re a member-based group with a modest $30 annual fee that supports events and helps maintain a warm, engaged community where moms truly connect. Membership benefits include: socials, schedule-friendly playgroups, member-hosted playdates, moms’ nights out, and coffee meetups, community outreach and volunteer opportunities, annual special events, Book Club, a private Facebook community, leadership and service roles within the club. Playgroups are one of the most meaningful parts of BMAK. These small groups meet regularly in homes or public spaces and are organized by children’s ages, nap schedules, and the availability of the moms. Member-hosted events fill the calendar each month, and all members are welcome to create or host an activity. The Helping Hands program also supports families who may be going through a major life event such as a new baby, a surgery, or a difficult time. Members can request or offer meals and support during these moments.
What are some fun facts about you or your business?
While rooted in Bristow, BMAK welcomes families from many surrounding communities. The membership is diverse and includes moms of all backgrounds, beliefs, identities, and parenting styles. Community service efforts have included shoe drives, school supply donations, and local park cleanups. Many lifelong friendships have formed through playgroups and member-hosted meetups. Events range from holiday socials and summer splash days to fire department visits, DIY craft nights, spa outings, coffee gatherings, and more.
What are you most proud of?
BMAK is proud to be a supportive and inclusive community where moms feel safe, respected, and welcomed. The club does not tolerate discrimination of any kind and actively values diversity in all forms.Members show up for one another. They celebrate each other’s wins, check in when someone is having a hard day, drop off meals when a baby arrives, and offer encouragement during tough moments. Remaining a strong, volunteer-led nonprofit for more than twenty years is something the club takes a lot of pride in.
